On Friday, September 16, 2011 HBO Latino held a special screening for the new original documentary “The Latino List” at El Museo del Barrio in New York City. The film features a series of compelling interviews from an outstanding ensemble of luminaries, leaders and artists from the Hispanic community, offering a unique window into what it means to be Latino in 21st-century America.

Attendees from “The Latino List” included scholar Dr. Maria Marta Vega, photographer and director Timothy Greenfield-Sanders and Latino List interviewers Maria Hinojosa (radio host of NPR’s Latino USA) and Sandra Guzman, who participated in a special Q&A panel discussion following the screening.

The event also summoned appearances by an ecletic mix of artists and influencers including musicians Frankie Negron, Somaya Reece (VH1’s “Love & Hip-hop”), 24 Horas and Voz a Voz; actors Roberto Vanderpool (La Barbería) and Eddie Torres (Carlito’s Way), actress Harmony Santana (Gun Hill Road), Monse Torres (HOT 97.1FM) and Calixto Chinchilla, founder of the New York International Latino Film Festival (NYILFF).

The screening was followed by a gallery reception, where revelers danced the night away in one of the New York Latino community’s most storied cultural centers.

“The Latino List” features intimate interviews with a cross-section of Latinos from a variety of professions, disciplines and backgrounds, with each individual speaking to the unique struggles and triumphs he or she faced as a Hispanic in America.

The film’s interviewees include acclaimed writer Sandra Cisneros; musician and producer Emilio Estefan; Grammy®-winning singer Gloria Estefan; Golden Globe-winning actress America Ferrera (Ugly Betty); NASA astronaut Jose Moreno Hernandez; military veteran Consuelo Castillo Kickbusch; actor/writer/producer John Leguizamo; actress Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives); U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ); rapper Pitbull; PGA golfer Chi Chi Rodriguez; ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero; radio host Eddie “Piolin” Sotelo; U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor; financial advisor Julie Stav; and scholar Dr. Marta Moreno Vega.

“The Latino List” will premiere on HBO Latino on Wednesday, September 28 at 9PM ET. It will air throughout Hispanic Heritage Month on HBO Latino, HBO On Demand and HBO Go. The documentary is in English with Spanish subtitles. More here:
